Choosing a Film School


Program. Each program is different and offer different things. Some programs might offer work experience, better facilities etc. A large quantity of complains regarding film school are due to the poor quality of certain programs. Research into the program’ success with it’s graduate, and within the industry, can reveal important insight.

 

Location. Some schools are positioned close to existing and active film industry cities. Being closer to an active film industry can help the quest for work after graduation. Some schools have good reputation within their cities and might be well known and respected by film workers.

 

Success. Film School graduate’s results in finding or creating work can provide some insight on the value of the teachings. Review from film industry workers about the skills of the graduate can reveal more about the teaching methods effectiveness.

 

Work opportunities. Finding work after film school can be a difficult process, some school have programs that are offering a more general qualification level so that the student can break into film in more than one way. Certain film schools do not offer any qualification that their student can then use to get started into film.

 

Teachers. Not every school has teachers that have years of experience in the film industry. Teachers with recent film experience will probably be still in touch with their colleagues in the film industry, creating possible networking opportunities for students.

 

Cost. Tuition costs may differ from a film school to another. High level of debts because of high tuition cost may have negative impacts after graduation, while trying to find work. Living arrangement and other expenses can also influence total school costs.

 

Personal Preference. Choosing a school that pleases you is important, as you’ll have to live with your decision. Potential film students can do many simple tasks to find or verify their choice, such as looking at the neighborhood, the school facilities etc.
